Winthrop Motor Company
605 St. Helens
Tacoma, Washington
Winthrop Motors, a Plymouth dealer, advertised Jeeps starting in 1969:
While the ad showed 6th & St. Helens, the text listing in the phone book showed 605 St. Helens. Your fumble-fingered researcher learned afterwards that he had inadvertenly photographed 601 St. Helens instead, vacant as of May 2004:
605 St. Helens is a boarded, vacant lot, seen to the right of the white building shown above. The Tacoma Public Library Photography Archive has pictures of both buildings. Direct links cannot be made to search results. Click here and enter "Winthrop Motors" for more details. A 1955 view, when the above building was owned by Electrical Products Consolidated, shows part of the Winthrop Motor Co. sign on the now-demolished building to right. A 1958 view shows the front of the dealership approximately 10 years before the Jeep line was added.
