Corwin Jeep
133 Main Street
Hickory, Pennsylvania
Brandon Corwin, grandson of the original owner, offers the following:
"Here is a brief history of Corwin Jeep as I know it. My grandfather bought the building that we are in and opened it up on July 2, 1945. At that time it was a service garage. After a short time he contacted Parsons Sales and Service, a Jeep dealer in Washington that has long since been closed. He said, "I'd like to borrow one of those Jeeps, I think I could sell them." He was abruptly told "get your own dealership!" So thats what he did, got his own Jeep franchise. I have the original order form for the first 16 Jeeps we ordered, Willys Sign, and Parts. The date was late '45 or early '46. However we are in the same building that we started out in (just a little modernized, not much though)."
Here is the building front with sign over the door, as seen from the main road. All pictures were taken in June 2003:
A view of the showroom. Imagine how many Jeeps have crossed this floor:
The parts and service department is located in what used to be one of the original service bays:
There can't be too many of these around. This is a 50 year plaque, awarded in 1996. According to Brandon, Corwin Jeep may be the oldest surviving Jeep dealership, having never been sold but passed down within the family:
Many thanks to Brandon for the history and pictures. See also A. J. Parsons Sales & Service in nearby Washington, Pennsylvania as mentioned above.
