The former Jarvis Jeep building, the single-level gray structure in the following picture, is now home to Parts Distributing, Inc., a large automotive parts store. Inside the building, I was amazed at the old-time feel. Most likely much of the building was little changed from the days as a Jeep dealership. Rows upon rows of parts books lined the counters. An impressive collection of vintage toy cars and trucks filled multiple showcases in the customer area. A counterman confirmed this was the former Jarvis Jeep but from there the exchange went downhill. He could care less about the history as a Jeep dealership and wasn't about to offer any more information. I hit a brick wall trying to talk to the guy, even though he let slip that he had worked there for years. It's amazing how one idiot can put a damper on what had been an otherwise great day.

"My Dad bought his first jeep from Jarvis Jeep in Portland, Oregon in 1946. It was a CJ2A and one of the first CJ's that had been bought by anyone in our the small town in Central Oregon . We were on a trip to Portland and I'm sure we were on Sandy Blvd just about on the east side of Portland when we came to Jarvis Jeep. (Editor's Note: Sandy Blvd. is a major thoroughfare that leads to Grand Ave.) It was a small dealership, looked like a service station with several Jeeps sitting in front of it. My Dad was a trapper and had been using Model A's for years, but when he saw the Jeeps he had to stop just to take a look. Well he got to telling the guy that his Model A's could do anything a Jeep could do so the guy took him for a ride. When they got back my Dad thought otherwise and bought a new Jeep. Then in 1950 my Dad bought a CJ3A also from Jarvis Jeep and traded the 46 in at that time. That same year my grandfather bought a 3A from the same dealer. There were signs along the road on Sandy that said " Peep Peep Jarvis Jeep" and they were there for several years after that. I have no idea what ever happened to Jarvis jeep."
