Cohen-Anderson Motor Co.
1638 West Burnside
Portland, Oregon
This is the first dealership I researched, as seen on the introductory page. The building is still in use as a car dealership, although slightly upscale now:
The same building housed Fields Chevrolet before Cohen-Anderson Motors. (A 1950 phone book shows Fields Chevrolet had relocated to 107 SE Grand Ave.) The name was later changed to Anderson Willys Company, according to a 1955 phone book listing and newspaper ad. The vintage picture at the left, replete with the 1939 Chevrolet lineup, graces the offices of Monte Shelton Motor Co. (Tom Lalande, a Monte Shelton employee, identified the year and vehicles.) Note the streetcar tracks in front of the building. Compare the changes with the picture on the right, taken on a rare sunny spring day, May 6, 2003:

I'd like to extend a warm thank-you to the folks at Monte Shelton Motor Company. They graciously showed me around the place and provided a bit of history, too. They have been at this location since 1974, prior to which the building housed British Motor Company, a dealer of Triumph and other brands. The earliest reference for British Motor Company, in a 1962 City Directory, showed them at this address, with no mention of Anderson Willys Company at any address.
At The CJ-3B Page, read about Glenn Houston's CJ-3B #9, purchased by the original owner in August 1952 at Cohen-Anderson. Glenn's father was a good friend of the Jeep's original owner and their families often vacationed together. Glenn remembers stopping for a service visit at Cohen-Anderson in this Jeep at the start of a trip to the Oregon Coast in 1952.
See also Jarvis Jeep, another Portland dealer where Glenn's father purchased two Jeeps of his own.
