A. D. Whitcomb Oil Company
North Broadway & 9th Street
Red Lodge, Montana
The July 29, 2004 edition of The Carbon County News has the obituary for Arnold E. Whitcomb (1909-2004). Besides running an oil company, mention is made of having sold Willys Jeeps. The business name and location during the Willys era are a bit sketchy. In 1926, A.D. Whitcomb, father of Arnold, established the business under the name Eagle Oil Company on the southeast corner of North Broadway and 9th Street. A new building was constructed in 1936, but it is not stated whether this was at a new location or the previous address. While not specifically mentioned, the Willys dealership may have been housed in a separate building, so the address is not guaranteed. By 1976, when the business was sold, it was known as the A. D. Whitcomb Oil Company.
The obituary also mentions an adjacent Ford dealer in 1976, which should help narrow down the address. As of 2004, Ford.com's dealer locator does not have a listing for Red Lodge.
